Novi Vindolski
Rijeka has a large range of places to eat, from upmarket gourmet restaurants, to very traditional taverns and international cuisine. There are also many pizzerias and fast food outlets. If you want a very local experience head to the central market, known as the “Town Belly”, where there is a bright array of locally-sourced fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and homemade goods. Also check out the seafront undercover market which is worth a visit both for its fresh produce and its unique architectural design. Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski also have a selection of gourmet food, local seafood and meat dishes as well as fast food.
There are a few beaches near Rijeka, but for the best beaches head to the Kvarner Islands. Ploce, just west of Rijeka, and Svezanj, 15km east of Rijeka, are Blue Flag certified, so have high safety, water quality and environmental standards. Ploce is a pebbled and paved beach, and Svezanj is pebbly and rocky. There are some stunning beaches on the islands of Cres, Krk, Losinj, Pag and Rab, which you can reach by boat.
